Professional Standards
UNC GIllings students must demonstrate honesty, courtesy, and integrity in all aspects of interaction with peers, faculty, staff, community members, patients, and others.
Collaboration
· Maintain situational awareness: Demonstrate appropriate awareness of their environment, circumstances, and the impact of their behavior on others in both academic and professional settings.
· Demonstrate environmental and social responsibility: Care for and show respect toward the natural environment and host communities during program activities, field experiences, and travel.
· Prioritize collective success: Recognize and accept that the needs and success of the cohort, team, or organization often take precedence over individual preferences or desires.
· Demonstrate teamwork capabilities: Work cooperatively and constructively as a member of diverse teams, showing flexibility, compromise, and a commitment to shared objectives. Maintain civil discourse when engaging in conversation with people of differing opinions and world views, being mindful of tone, body language and refraining from the use of profanity or harsh language.
· Honor relationships: Show respect and appreciation for others through punctual attendance, active participation, appropriate dresswear (i.e., dress in accordance with the settings’ standards), and follow-through commitments. If unsure about expectations (e.g., dress, conduct) for a particular context (e.g., practicum, networking event), please consult Gillings Career Services or the person supervising your work.
· Engage thoughtfully with feedback: Actively seek, give, and respond to feedback in a respectful and constructive manner. Contribute to a culture of open communication that supports individual and team growth. Recognize the importance of both positive and developmental feedback in understanding your impact on others and deepening awareness of your own strengths and areas for improvement.
